By the Bay: Walking Through 50 Years of Kowloon Bay
The HKIUD Programs and Events Committee (PEC) is pleased to invite you to “By the Bay: Walking Through 50 Years of Kowloon Bay,” a guided city tour co-organised by Kongcept and HKIUD, on 31 October 2026!
When you think of Kowloon Bay, do you picture only its traditional industrial areas? Beyond the industrial buildings lies a community shaped by thoughtful planning and hidden urban aesthetics. This guided tour will take you through Kowloon Bay to explore how the district reflects Hong Kong’s vision of modern living.
During the 1970s and 1980s, aspirations for a better quality of life grew significantly. As a visionary city builder, Hang Lung spearheaded the development of Amoy Gardens. Together with Telford Gardens, developed on reclaimed land, these projects responded to the public’s desire for an ideal community. Their distinctive architectural design and spatial planning not only reflected the aspirations of contemporary living but also helped lay the foundations for modern community planning in Hong Kong.
In collaboration with Hang Lung, Kongcept will lead HKIUD members and friends on a guided tour of Amoy Gardens and Telford Gardens, exploring their architectural language before continuing to the newly completed East Kowloon Cultural Centre. Together, we will discover how these classic residential estates and a contemporary cultural hub shape Kowloon Bay’s urban fabric. Join us to rediscover the district’s captivating blend of old and new through the first-hand perspectives of local residents.
